I just wanted to make a correction to information listed for Roger Vadenais. His mother's maiden name was Aldea Auclair (not LeClair). Aldea was my grandmother and Roger was my uncle.

Thank you.

I am related to Pierre Mousso, he was my great grandfather on my mother's side. My mother's name was Laura Shelters, she married my father, Joseph Aram Arthur San Souci, aka Ralph in Glens Falls, New York. My mother was born in Dannemora, NY and lived on Lyon Mountain until her mother Dellamae (Della) died. My mother's father (my grandfather), Ello Howard Shelters, farmed out his 5 children of his marriage to Dellamae Mousso (Mousseau), Peter and Laura's daughter, so he could marry the woman who took are of Della when she was sick, Amelia Mumblo, who also lived in Dannemora, NY. My great grandmother was Angelique Chartier, aka Laura. I still don't know where the name Laura came from but she was married to Peter. There are church records at St. Bernards church in Lyon Mountain, NY for the Mousseau's. Peter worked as a superintendent for the ore mine that was in Lyon Mountain at the time. I'm told that all of his relaltives moved to Minnesota when the ore mine was about to close for the first time, but Peter and Laura didn't leave because they had 12 children...actually had 14 but 2 died as babies. Some of the names would be Louis, Joseph, Frank (Francois), Alexis or Charles. I'm trying to make the connection from Peter's father, Pierre Mousseau, Pierre's father, Jean Mousseau. If anyone has information, I can send a genealogical chart of the lineage. Thank you.

I'm trying to make a connection to the MN Indians. I have a connection

Have been viewing and enjoying this site for years. My gr,gr grandfather was Joseph (Vadnais) Varney, son of Pierre Vadnais and Felicite Robillard-Lambert. So if you are searching in northern New York you may want to check for the surname Varney. Now am trying to connect with the names Therrien and Brousseau so will continue visiting this wonderful site for clues.

My maternal grandmother was Yvonne Therese Vadnais (born 1902, Wells, Michigan) daughter of Denys Zephine Vadnais (born in 1865, St Cuthbert, Berthier, PQ). She/we descend from this line. This site is an amazing resource, thank you. My mother can still remember stories about Vadnais family in Rhode Island. It's really interesting to see which descendents first went there.

I have a few questions/possible corrections and some additions to make if you're interested. I also enjoy genealogy in general and like corresponding by e-mail if anyone is interested.

Thanks again for the wonderful site. Best Regards. Rob

Hello,
My husband's family seen to know little about their faminly, I have been trying to trace their family back none seem so know their great grand parent's names. My husbands's names were Joseph Richard Vadney and Robert Anthony Vadney (Brothers). Both are deceased now. Their parents were William Thomas Vadney and Henrietta (Fiset) Vadney. Grandparents were Joseph Vadney and Catherine (Millet - I'm not sure on the spelling of her maiden name)Vadney. They were both born in Quebec, Canada, Joseph became a citizen of the USA August 19, 1919 in Albany, New York. I am just wondering if this line of Vadneys (original spelling I am told was (Vadnais)immagrated from France to Canada and then some into the USA are connected to your line of Vadnais?

My sister in law is a decendent to the Hodders and Musseau's that you have listed in your family tree. Thank you for the information, I was able to add a couple of items to her tree that we were not aware of.

Can you tell me if you have any further information about the Hodders from Port aux Basques? I am looking for more information about Joseph Hodder b. about 1848 married to Vera (Sarah). I was told that he may be one of three brothers who immigrated from England and they were all coal miners in the Port aux Basques area.

Any further information that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hello All,
Sorry to hear the loss! I am enquiring a bit about one of my ancestors...which has me a bit confused.

My great grandfather was listed as St Pierre Parenteau on the 1901 Census, son of Pierre Parenteau and Virgine(Nertienne)nee Chartrand. His 2 other sisters Helen and Clara Parenteau are also mentionned.

His father was Pierre Parenteau, son of Joseph Alphonse Parenteau(born Sept 30, 1848/49) and Ellen "Nellie" Cook(daughter of William Jr Cook and Mary Cocking/Cook). He was born in either 1848 or 1849 in Manitoba. His father was Joseph Parenteau, we believe, but don't know his mother's name. It could either be Suzanne Daigneault or Angelique Godon but none of their children seem to fit the date and age. and his father was Joseph Victor Parenteau.

Would anyone know where to look for this information so we can have proof of our family lineage. So far, I have about over a thousand descendants of Pierre Joshua Parenteau(born Nov 17, 1876/79) and his wife Virginie Chartrand(born Dec 18, 1979) daughter of William Chartrand and Sophie Genaille/Chenaille.

My thanks,
Cameron Parenteau-Longo

I have been researching the family for over 30 years. Laurier and I have exchanged information some time ago. If his site goes down I assure you there will be another. I have been directing others to Laurier's site from my Web Parlour. If this side goes down just type something like Vadnais family history genealogy or something like that, the more you ask for the closer my web parlour should be to the top. It will probably be in the top ten anyway. I will get my site up with a somewhat larger database. In the mean time if you have a query on the family feel free to send it to me.

Hi,
I came across your genealogy page and noticed an entry for ELLENDA Short and Joseph Musseau of Cape Ray, Newfoundland.

I am trying to find information about my grandmother ELLEN Short.

She was born in Cape Ray, Newfoundland(08 Aug 1889 - date not verified). She first married Thomas Patey of Cape Ray and, after his death married my grandfather Cyrus Mac Kenzie of Cardigan, Prince Edward Island. They resided in North Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Ellen died on 04 March 1936 in Cape Breton.

Unfortunately Ellen and her family have been lost to this generation.

If anyone knows any connections, I would be grateful for any information.

Thank you.

I visited your home page after receiving "La Famille Vadenay" by Betty Vadner Haas. My mother's maiden name is Vadney, and I have been researching her line. Her ggrandfather, Augustus Vadney, b. abt 1823, emigrated from Canada to the area south of Albany, NY before 1850. In the same area was his brother Emanuel, b. abt 1820. There was also another Vadney in the area, Joseph, b. abt 1818, but I haven't proved the relationship.
What intrigues me is that the CD ROM accompanying the book, which is attributed to you, shows three siblings out of Edouard Vadenay of Rouville, QP, and the birth years match. The only difference is that Augustus in my line shows up as Charles Augustin as a child of Edouard. Incidentally, Augustus named his first born male child George Edward. His father-in-law's first name was George. He also named another child Emmanuel. I was wondering if you have any further information regarding the children of Edouard and M Joachin Prive. Your records also show that another child, Moise, moved to Vermont, and then had a child in Albany NY. Any information you can provide would be helpful. If you wish, I can provide you the line I have from me back to Augustus.

I have recently started to find information about my mothers family. She was born Geraldine Proulx in St Anne. Manitoba. Last month during a trip to Winnipeg I went to the Centre du Patrimoine in St. Boniface. I had a document printed with the known ancestry of my mother dating back through Quebec to 16th century France. In the document Louis Hebert and Marie Rollet are listed as my 10th Great Grand Parents. I noticed that they are listed in your ancestry also. The information from the document has overwhelmed me. Just as your web site. Thank you.

Wonderful way to go back in time.
Now I understand that the Vadnais in St. Culbert, St. Michel, Yamaska, St. Aime are the same, as are those in MN.

My grandmother was a Vadnais from St. Culbert, born around 1888.

Hello,
I am trying to find out my family heritage and know that somehow-somewhere I am related to Pierre Parenteau, the famous buffalo hunter, and President of the provisional govt that Louis Riel set up in the 1880's in Canada. I am trying to find out how exactly I am related. I don't have that much info. I was adopted and now am trying to find out my family tree with the scraps of info I have on the Parenteau family.

Cameron Gordon Joseph Parenteau-July 1972

-dad-Clifford Parenteau-Nov 1952

-Mom-Margaret Parenteau- Nov 1936

-Dad-Alphonse Joseph Parenteau -b.Feb 21, 1902

-Dad-Joshua Parenteau

-Dad-Samuel Parenteau(married in Grand Rapids, Manitoba)

This is all the info I know. If anyone could help me, I would be very happy.

Sincerely,
Cameron Parenteau

I am requesting any information on my ancestor Pierre Parenteau, who was sentenced to 7 years in Jail for his involvement in the Riel Rebellion in 1885. I would like to find out his date of birth, his parents, his children, etc. Any information would be nice. I was adopted at age 6, so I don't have any info on my family lineage. I too am researching my family tree and happened onto your site via search engine for "Battiste". I happen to live in the house formerly owned by Musson, James Nathan Musseau and Mabel (Battiste), both now deceased. I noticed your ? by Howard/Harold. Thought you might want to know that he was always called Howard that I know of. Last known residence was Corner Brook, Newfoundland. However, I believe he has since passed away. Dolly married Ronald Doyle and Gerald still lives in this neighborhood. Most of their spouses/children/grandchildren also live in Port aux Basques.

2nd great grandfather, Caliste Bibeau b. Feb 2 1828 in Cuthbert, Berthier, P.Quebec, married in St. Felix de Valois, Joliette, P.Q. to Suzanne Marois.

3rd great grandfather, Jean Baptiste Bibeau married Rose Tepanier.

Who knows there may be a connection there. Please let me know. Cheers.

Laurier,

Thank You so very much for the this wonderful website. I know all of the time and effort it must have taken. A few months ago I was trying to get information from my father about his family heritage. He knew very little. I now know that his sister was named after her grandmother (on the Vadnais side of the family). I can't wait to share all of this with him tomorrow when he returns from out of town.

Is there continued research on our Vadnais' genealogy? Is there a way to go even further back in time?

Thank you again, maybe next year we can make the reunion!

Donelle

I am the sister of George Emanual Vadney, daughter of George Edward Vadney, born 1886 in Wallowa, Oregon, the granddaughter of Emanual Vadney born 1855 in Albany, NY.
1 - we understand the name might have been changed from the French deVadneau. We think Emanual's fathers name was Augustus deVadneau born in Paris,France. Married (unknown first name) Relyea.
2 - It is our understanding that three orphan brothers came from France to live with their uncle. One brother eventually was reported to have gone to Canada with a possible name change again.

Is there any chance that we are related to your group? Would appreciate hearing from you. Margaret Vadney Nickel and daughter (Penny McAndrew)
